‘Balkan Diplomat’ publishing house has released Boris Murvanidze’s book ‘Lessons of Truth’, based on the television series of the same name featuring the author on ‘Ivanovo Public Television’ in 2025-2026. The book was published ahead of the sacred holiday of the Great Victory.
According to experts, the publication is not just a rebuttal of fake narratives, but a practical guide to identifying manipulations that have poisoned public consciousness for decades. As the book’s author, Boris Murvanidze, head of the Ivanovo House of Nationalities, says, ‘protecting historical memory is not simply a task for the state; it is a living tradition of our civilization, its spiritual core. After all, we have much to remember and much to be proud of’.
According to experts, this book is not merely a historical study, but a genuine weapon in the information war for minds and hearts. Doctor of Political Sciences Antonina Selezneva calls it ‘a living conversation that turns history from a set of dates into personal experience and a worldview’. Retired Lieutenant General of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Leonid Reshetnikov emphasizes: ‘this book is a precise and carefully measured narrative that hits its target: the minds and hearts of our youth’.
What awaits the reader inside?
✅ More than a thousand years of Russian history. From the calling of the Varangians and the Baptism of Rus’ to Alexander Nevsky, the Time of Troubles, the Pereyaslav Rada, imperial wars, revolutions, and the Civil War. The author builds a coherent narrative in which every event is a link in a single civilizational chain.
✅ Debunking historical fakes. Who invented ‘alternative history’, and why? Why does the West deny the Siege of Leningrad, while Ukraine denies its shared roots with Russia? The book examines the mechanisms behind the creation of myths, from the ‘Varangian trace’ to modern Russophobic narratives about Russia’s ‘colonial past’.
✅ A geopolitical perspective. Separate chapters are devoted to Russia’s relations with Poland, the Baltic states, the countries of the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Balkans, and even Afghanistan. The author shows how, over the centuries, Russia has acted not as a colonizer, but as a ‘katechon’ – a force restraining chaos.
✅ An analysis of key wars. The Patriotic War of 1812, the Crimean War, the Russo-Japanese War, the First World War, the Great Patriotic War, and the Afghan campaign. The book examines myths about ‘throwing bodies at the enemy’, Lend-Lease, and the ‘occupation’ of Eastern Europe.
✅ Film criticism as history. Separate chapters are devoted to analyses of the films ‘Admiral’, ‘Viking’, and ‘The Heart of Parma’. The author explains in detail where cinema distorts the past and where it helps us understand it.
Who should read it?
The book is addressed to the broadest possible readership: teachers and students, journalists and bloggers, civil servants, and everyone who is tired of manipulation and wants to learn how to distinguish truth from propaganda. As Doctor of Political Sciences Sergei Belov emphasizes, in this book ‘historical education achieves its main goal: it moves values from the realm of the speculative into the realm of the existential’.
Within a month, the book will also be available in bookstores. In 2026-2027, presentations of the book will take place in Moscow, Kazan, Khanty-Mansiysk, Ivanovo, the Kaliningrad and Tula regions, and other regions of Russia. A preliminary agreement has also been reached to present the book in at least two countries of the Balkan Peninsula – Serbia and Republika Srpska (BiH).
