A presentation of the book “The Serbian Question through the Prism of Geopolitical Conflicts in the 20th Century” by Evgeny Vadimovich Ryabinin, Head of the Representative Office of the Russian-Balkan Center for Business Cooperation and Culture in the DPR (Mariupol), PhD in Political Science, and Associate Professor of the Department of History and Political Science at the A.I. Kuindzhi Mariupol State University, was held at the Delib Book Center in Moscow.
The discussion was moderated by Elena Georgievna Ponomareva, a Balkans expert, Doctor of Political Science, and Professor at MGIMO. Although active military conflicts in the region ended more than 25 years ago, interest in them remains strong, and the current geopolitical situation in the Balkans is slowly but surely simmering, living up to its nickname, “Europe’s powder keg.”
Representatives from Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina (the book’s subjects) attended the meeting. The discussion continued after the official presentation: the project generated tremendous interest among those attending the unique presentation!
As a reminder, the book was published in 2025 by Balkansky Diplomat Publishing House. The publication was initiated by Evgeny Osenkov and Mikhail Yaruev, with the support of PMK-710 LLC. In this work, the author analyzes the tragic fate of the Serbian people, who were subjected to genocide three times in the past century: during the First and Second World Wars, and during the disintegration of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Particular attention is paid to the military conflicts in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in the first half of the 1990s, as well as NATO aggression against Serbia during the ethnic separatist conflict in Kosovo and Metohija.
